Why Monte Gordo in the Algarve
Monte Gordo has a microclimate of its own. It really is still a fishing village. Dear people who live in simplicity. The beaches here are beautiful, wide and about 16 km. long. The sea is calm. Great for walkers to walk along the tide line and then quench their thirst on a terrace.

Summer
In the summer there is a real holiday atmosphere . The beach looks colored by all the colorful umbrellas, where you can protect yourself from the sun. The sea water is wonderful for swimming. The sun shines here every day and the temperature is wonderful due to the nice breeze on the coast. The boulevard turns into an atmospheric night market with street theater and music, among other things. Kids stay up late. For them there is a beautiful fair that will stay all summer. So Monte Gordo is also a great place for a holiday for young families.

Monte Gordo
Monte Gordo was originally a fishing village. Many fishermen still go out to sea very early to return in the morning with their catch. This is a beautiful spectacle to see. Monte Gordo has developed well in recent years. They live mainly from tourism. The boulevard looks beautiful and for people with walking difficulties, that is also thought of. A beautiful long wooden walkway has been made on the beach with an adjoining beautiful and cozy restaurant with a view of the sea. You can also see the sunset very well. The village has nice shops, restaurants and bars. The food is good and affordable.

Algarve
The Algarve offers so much beauty, the flora and fauna are beautiful throughout the year. Trees and flowers are in bloom all year round, despite the fact that there is hardly any rain. In August you can spot dolphins here. There is also a reserve in Castro Marim with all kinds of water birds, such as storks and flamingos. Furthermore, the Algarve offers beautiful views with the sun, it really is a PARADISE here. You can experience it yourself!

Monte Gordo: the place for beach, sea, sun and fun
In the Eastern Algarve near the Spanish border is the cosy seaside resort of Monte Gordo. Only the village of Vila Real de Santo António and the Guadiana River separate Monte Gordo from Spain. On the coast of this seaside resort is a wide sandy beach about fifteen kilometres long. This beach offers everything you could wish for as a bather in summer. Among other things, all kinds of water sports are offered, there are lifeguards and you can rent a lounger. The beach is also ideal for long walks. If you want to have a drink or eat out, Monte Gordo also has plenty to offer. You will find all kinds of cafes and restaurants and there is even a casino on the boulevard.
Monte Gordo in winter
In winter, Monte Gordo has a great attraction for those who want to escape the harsh Dutch weather. Especially many retirees like to overwinter in the flat Monte Gordo. Even avid golfers have found their way to the five golf courses that are near the Portuguese seaside resort. Furthermore, runners and cyclists like to come to the east of the Algarve to train, where Monte Gordo is an excellent base. In fact, the seaside resort is seen as the destination for a training internship in the winter because of the climate and good facilities.
Trips from Monte Gordo
Even if you are not so sporty and prefer to discover sights, you will find enough challenge during a holiday in the Monte Gordo area. For example, take a trip to neighbouring Spain. The best thing is to take the ferry from the Portuguese Vila Real de Santo António over the wide Guadiana to the Spanish Ayamonte. But you can also drive quickly over the Ponte Internacional do Guadiana by car. Also nice to discover is the castle in Castro Marim, which is about seven kilometres from Monte Gordo. Or visit the picturesque town of Tavira, which you can drive from the seaside resort in half an hour. Do you have more time? Then the Algarve still offers many sights. For example, the old town of Faro is definitely worth a visit. Or go to Fóia in the Monchique Mountains. You are then at the highest point of the Algarve.
